Racing out to a three goal lead mid-way through the first period, and the worst was expected of the game as the Rookies strutted their stuff.
The Veterans then showed what they were made of by pulling back two goals in the space of a minute towards the end of the period.
The highlight of the period being a superb goal by Scott Clemie who took the puck from the neutral zone, past two defenders and scored a beautiful backhand shot off the crossbar and in.
The second period saw three goals, two to the Rookies, and one to the Veterans as the scoreline became 6-3, making the third period almost a formality.
The crowds remained though, as the Veterans showed some incredible play, despite many not having played hockey for a long time.
There were deft touches, and a surprising level of team play and communication with so little preparation.
The final period saw a third consecutive period of three goals from the Rookies, taking their tally to nine, two magnificent displays of individual flair, as the Rookies showed off their puck movement and handling, as well as a clinical finishing that saw them out on the night.
The game capped off a great day for the Bears, with fans coming for the many competitions and a carpark hockey game for the kids.
"We have been planning on having this game for a long time now. It was great to see all the Veterans come out and wear their original Bears jersey's" said Rookie team forward Brett Nelson-Bond.
The Habitat Furniture Man of the Match went to Michael Schlamp after finishing the night with 4 points (2 goals and 2 asssits).
The Bears first league game of the season will be against the new Melbourne side, the Mustangs on Saturday the 16th April at the Penrith Ice Palace, puck drops at 5pm.
