Welcome to AIHL's 2022 Season! The AIHL has lots of exciting news to share, but first, let’s put the recent speculations about the AIHL 2022 season and future to rest. AIHL is the biggest, strongest premier league in Australia.
We would like to thank our clubs, players, and loyal fans for their understanding and tremendous support during the past two years, which has seen us all endure a very challenging period.
Throughout this period, the AIHL has been working tirelessly to build a better and stronger AIHL structure, and this has been achieved with the support of our club governors, officials, stadiums, Ice Hockey Australia and Ice Hockey NZ, who are totally united in our quest to deliver the best premier ice hockey in Australia and beyond.
Let’s check out what has happened and what is coming;
AIHL STRUCTURE
CONFIRMED 2022 Season Schedule
We have a 115 game season with 3 x 20 minute periods, our fans will be seeing some familiar and new imports hit the ice and entertain us. Check out our 2022 schedule at theaihl.com.
All eight teams are now preparing to return to the Ice in 2022, obviously subject to the pandemic and state government travel and border restrictions.
But wait, there's more! AIHL will also commence a series of exhibition games before our April season start date with other games to be held during the season.
NEW LICENCE OWNER
AIHL is delighted to announce that Adelaide, South Australia has new licensees. Adelaide Adrenaline are back on the ice for 2022 and are raring to challenge for the Goodall Cup. We are proud to welcome Benny Gebert and Glen Foll, and we will be supporting them to bring the Adrenaline back to greatness.
LEAGUE EXPANSION
During 2020/21, we shared with you there had been some interest from a few clubs to enter the AIHL. We can confirm we have released expansion plans to introduce a new team in 2023 and are on track for our tenth team in 2025. In addition, 2022 will see AIHL sponsoring some exhibition games in other areas that may not have access to live AIHL hockey.
AIHL FINALS
We are back at O’Brien Icehouse Docklands – big call out to Lee Gordon, GM of the Icehouse, and O’Brien Group for their continuing support of AIHL ice hockey.
You can expect an excellent finals weekend program commencing the first weekend of September, so come and be part of the excitement of seeing the Goodall Cup, the second oldest ice hockey trophy in the world, being awarded for the first time in the last two years.
AIHL CELEBRATING 20 YEARS
In 2020, we sadly missed out on the opportunity to celebrate 20 years of the AIHL, so we will be honouring that Australian ice hockey milestone milestone in 2022 instead.
SPONSORS
This season, you will see some familiar and new organisations in our sponsorship list. We thank them for their generous support and look forward to seeing them at our games across Australia throughout our season.
MEDIA
2022 will be a massive year for ‘new media’ to include most games being streamed live via KAYO. For those who do not wish to join KAYO, you also have new options to join AIHL.TV.
Our games will also be streamed LIVE to Canada, US, Europe and UK via a new partnership with SYNERGY sports.
AIHL COMMUNITY
Over the next few weeks, we will also be announcing a new national community partnership to help showcase elite hockey and use our platform for social impact and community outcomes.
There's a lot happening this season - if you have any question on the above information, or anything else you would like to know, please reach out to us via a message on our website or via email at contact@theaihl.com.
