The Melbourne Mustangs and Melbourne Ice have raised $50,000 in their Bushfire Appeal charity game at the O’Brien Icehouse on Sunday.
The Ice defeated the Mustangs 5:2 in front of a sold-out O’Brien Icehouse, in which the AIHL community came together to support those affected by the recent Bushfires across Australia.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 2:0 lead in the first period, thanks to goals from Vadim Virjassov and Matt Anderson, only to be answered by Ethan Cornford and Joey Hughes for the Ice.
Cornford would grab his second and the lone goal of the second period, to make it 3:2 Ice. The Ice added two more in the final period to give them the 5:2 victory, in an afternoon where the cause was the real winner.
With the total standing at $45,000 raised at the end of the game, the AIHL chipped in and contributed another $5000, to bring the total raised to $50,000.
The AIHL wishes to sincerely thank everyone at the Ice, Mustangs and all the fans who contributed towards the Bushfire Appeal.
