Northstars take the win in a tight game against Adrenaline. Photo: Rhys Lavender. The Northstars kicked off their last double header at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium with a tight win over Adelaide Adrenaline. As it comes to the time in the season where every game really starts to matter and every point gets you one step closer to finals spot, both Newcastle and Adelaide wanted to take the points from Saturday's game. Adelaide Adrenaline currently placed last on the bottom of the AIHL league leaderboard, know that they need to start winning games to get towards the top four places. The Northstars look to solidify their position in second as early as possible. The young Adrenaline side gave the Northstars a hard time, coming back twice to equalise from a two goal deficit during the game. However the Northstars clinched a win with the final goal in the last three minutes. Harcharik a driving force for Northstars. Photo: Rhys Lavender. Sammy Banga, the Northstars newest import, continued his rapid fire and intensity scoring twice in the first period to take a quick lead early on in the game. Not only did Sammy score twice during the game, but also managed to nab assists on every Northstars goal accruing an impressive 5 points for the night. The last placed, Adelaide Adrenaline came out firing on all cylinders in the second period. Capitalising on two opportunities saw Adrenaline equalise the score before the end of the second period. The third period saw 5 goals as the Northstars extended their lead by two goals, only to have Adelaide equalise soon after. Locked in a stalemate the teams fought tooth and nail for every inch of ice, until Northstars captain managed to net the game winning goal. The Northstars play tomorrow (Sunday 8th July) against Melbourne Ice at 4pm at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium.
