North Stars Canadian import Connor McLaughlin was the top scorer of the 2016 regular season, with 35 goals and 26 assists under his belt, racking up a total of 61 points all up.
McLaughlin was also responsible for the North Stars’ first goal in the Grand Final, delivering a five-hole wrist shot right under CBR’s Aleksi Toivonen, capping off a stellar season with an AIHL Championship.
McLaughlin began playing ice hockey in Canada for the Nelson Leafs in 2008 before extending his stick to America.
“I grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and played it my whole life, moved down to Arizona, kept playing and then it only goes so far down there, so I went back up to Canada to keep going,” McLaughlin said.
He played at the University of Alberta-Augustana for a couple of years alongside North Star teammates Scott Swiston and Beau Taylor, who were part of the 2015 Championship team.
McLaughlin said that he was excited to come down, play alongside his teammates and achieve the ultimate goal.
“It feels amazing obviously coming down here, they did it last year and they've been talking it up all year so it's amazing to come down here and do it with the boys,” McLaughlin said.
“Win the Goodall Cup, that was always the reason; it was never about the scoring title. It was about coming down here and winning it with those boys.” |
