Cash prizes add spice to All-Star Weekend

Prepare for a weekend of hockey like you’ve never seen before with the first AIHL All-Star Game presented by APA Group.
 
To add spice to the weekend, passionate AIHL fan and supporter Mick McCormack will be offering cash prizes.
 
Participants in Saturday’s APA Group Breakaway Challenge will use their creativity and skill to score and enlist crowd support. The winner will receive $1000.
 
On Sunday, the AIHL’s first All-Star Game will be filled with Fast. Fierce. Full On action…and additional reward for players. The MVP, as determined by a panel of five hockey experts, will earn $5000! An additional $4000 will be awarded to the AIHL club of the MVP.
 
Criteria for determining the winner will include:
  • Individual performance, including significant game statistics
  • Contribution to the team’s success through individual leadership abilities
  • Effort and tenacity displayed on offence
  • Effort and tenacity displayed on defence
  • Performance off the ice, including community citizenship
AIHL Commissioner Robert Bannerman said the extra incentive for the players should ensure an incredible weekend for fans.
 
“We are not planning a typical All-Star Game. Fans should expect the best players in Australian ice hockey to showcase their talent and teamwork, but also compete vigorously at both ends of the rink. It will be a lot of fun to watch.”
 
Sunday’s MVP will be awarded a cheque following the All-Star Game. Before next season starts, an appropriate trophy will be designed and manufactured to recognise winners from 2015 onward. The McCormack Cup will be presented to the MVP of the AIHL All-Star Game in subsequent years.
