Star performers
Sydney Ice Dogs: Adam Kimbley
With the level of the AIHL constantly improving, it’s sometime hard for Aussie players to compete like they do in competitions such as the ECSL. It could be argued that Adam Kimbley has completed the successful step up. With 110 points in just 73 games in the ECSL, Kimbley has only managed 21 points in 92 AIHL games. As a playmaker, it’s been difficult, having to compete for ice time in the ever-strong North Stars, the Bears in a wooden spoon season in 2014 and the Ice Dogs this season, Kimbley has just been a victim of tough circumstances but lucky he has plenty of time left in his hockey career to show the obvious skill and potential we’ve been able to glimpse.
CBR Brave: Kai Miettinen
Closing in on his 100th game (he’s at 94 currently), Miettinen is an exciting prospect for the Brave. Having played so many games, Miettinen is still only 19. Having claimed his 10th goal in the AIHL last weekend against the Bears, Miettinen has huge potential. With the Brave boasting a strong line of imports and strengthening their Aussie stocks, having young stars like Miettinen will only ensure the Brave remain strong well into the future.
Cold Hard Stats
1. This is will be the third meeting between the Ice Dogs and the Brave in 2015. The Brave currently lead the season series 2-0-0-0.
2. This will be an Ice Dogs home game at the Phillip Swimming and Ice Skating Stadium and all four games between these teams will be played at this venue in 2015.
3. The Brave have yet to beat the Ice Dogs in an Ice Dogs home game, regardless of the venue.
4. The Brave's Stephen Blunden has moved only 14 points behind his 2014 tally of 68 points in 2015. If he continues his current scoring rate, he should get to 74 points before the playoffs.
5. The Ice Dogs' Kane Spence scored his first two AIHL points last week, playing a hand in both goals in the Sunday game against the Thunder.
