Season
Star performers Melbourne Mustangs: Vadim Virjassov In his fourth season in the AIHL, Estonian national team representative Vadim Virjassov has been an effective offensive tool for the Mustangs this season, having become a permanent resident of Australia earlier this season. Currently sitting on 12 points from 13 games, Virjassov is a versatile player, capable of putting the puck in the back of the net or setting up his teammates, which is enough to keep opposition defencemen guessing. Sydney Bears: Adrian Esposito A former Australia representative, Adrian Esposito is a true journeyman in the AIHL. Having played around 200 games for the Sydney Bears, Esposito is having a strong season, having almost reached double figures for just the second time in his AIHL career. However, the performance of players like Esposito will be important if the Bears are going to make the finals for the first time since 2010. Cold Hard Stats 1. This is will be the second meeting between the Mustangs and the Bears in 2015. The Bears lead the season series 1-0-0-0. 2. When the Mustangs beat the Bears in Melbourne they average a three-goal win, whereas the Bears average a one-goal win. 3. Should the Bears defeat the Mustangs, the overall head-to-head between the teams will be locked at four wins each. 4. With five goals in the last two matches, Joey Hughes is in a goal scoring purple patch, having scored 11 goals in as many games so far this season. 5. The Bears’ Ales Padelek is currently on a six-game point scoring streak, having scored 12 points in that time. Livestream: http://aihl.net/MelbLive |
