The Melbourne Mustangs stole the headlines over the weekend as they played a gruelling three game schedule over the course of four days. The Mustangs would earn two solid wins from the three matches and rush to the top of the table- leapfrogging city rivals, Melbourne Ice. The Sydney Bears continued their stumble against two of the powerhouses of the 2014 competition, and the Perth Thunder finally hit their stride to pry themselves off the foot of the ladder. ----- Mustangs 8 @ Ice 3 The eight goal haul is the team’s third highest in AIHL history and their most ever against the Ice This was only the second loss for Melbourne Ice at the Medibank Icehouse in 2014 The Melbourne Ice lost consecutive games for the first time this season Jamie Bourke scored four points on the night (two goals, two assists) to rocket into the AIHL top eight point scorers in 2014 ----- Bears 1 @ Brave 4 The CBR Brave have won four of their last five games on home ice The Bears are on their second 6+ game losing streak in the last 26 matches The Bears lost on the road for the first time this season Stephen Blunden and Mathieu Ouellette combined for six points on the night to occupy second and third spots on the AIHL scoring leaders table in 2014 ----- Mustangs 2 @ North Stars 5 This was the equal second most goals scored against the Mustangs all season The North Stars scored more goals in this match than their last four AIHL home matches combined This was the first victory at home for the North Stars in 2014 (1-4-0-0 record at home in 2014) Six power plays were incurred during the game with no power plays goals scored, however both Pat O'Kane and Chris Wilson managed to score short-handed goals ----- Adrenaline 1 @ Thunder 7 The Thunder won on home ice for the first time this season on their fifth attempt The Adrenaline lost a fifth consecutive road game to the Perth Thunder On a losing team, Michael Will faced 53 shots for 46 saves for a 0.867 save %, which is higher than has season average of 0.858.
