The AIHL is excited to announce to fans around the world that the 2018 AIHL Finals presented by Air Canada will be hosted at O’Brien Group Arena (OBG Arena) in Melbourne.
The AIHL Finals series on 1-2 September features two days of full-on ice hockey action. On Super Saturday the top four ranked AIHL teams battle it out in elimination semi-finals, hoping to secure a place in the Finals and a chance to take home the Goodall Cup on Championship Sunday.
AIHL Commissioner Robert Bannerman said the decision to host the Finals at O’Brien Group Arena is a combination of factors that deliver a great experience for our players and fans.
“The O’Brien Group Arena provides the biggest ice rink in Australia at present – with facilities for AIHL teams, fans and VIP experiences around the rink, it’s the perfect stage for the League’s premier event.”
The 2017 Finals was a standing-room only event and with the rink located in the heart of the Melbourne’s vibrant city, hosting the AIHL Finals at OBGA offers fans across Australia a destination trip of a lifetime.
General Manager for O’Brien Group Arena Paul Keisler, says he and his team are excited to host the 2018 AIHL Finals.
“As a team we pride ourselves in delivering world class events and see this as another opportunity to do exactly that on Australian hockey’s biggest weekend!
“It has been a huge year for ice sports so far. The Winter Olympics helped pique the public interest across all winter sport – especially ice sports. OBG Arena has seen many first-time visitors through the doors, watching Melbourne Ice and Mustangs AIHL games, as well as giving skating a go.
“As an official Winter Olympic training facility and Australia’s premier ice sport venue in a sports-mad city, OBG Arena looks forward to working with the AIHL and sponsors to deliver a Finals series that hockey fans will relish.”
The best of the AIHL’s teams descend upon OBGA on 1-2 September.
