Captaining an AIHL All-Star team is a new accolade for Josef Rezek. The Czech native who now calls Australia home, has been one of the standouts for the Adelaide Adrenaline since first skating for the team all the way back in 2011. In 7 AIHL seasons, Rezek has amassed 66 goals and 102 assists for 168 points in 137 AIHL games. He’s also been the coach of the Adelaide Rush in the AWIHL for the past two seasons. Rezek has not just been a great ambassador for hockey in Adelaide, since becoming an Australian citizen he’s also been a representative of his adopted country at the highest level on the international stage. Rezek played a key role in his second outing for Australia at the IIHF World’s in the Netherlands in 2018. Rezek finished with 4 points for the tournament, including two timely goals. He has a total of 7 goals and two assists in 10 games in the green and gold. The Mighty Roos’ latest campaign in the Netherlands was a fond memory and a great experience for Rezek. “I believe it was a very good result for us to claim the silver medal for the second year in a row. The tournament had a lot of challenges for us but the team was very good. The new guys in the team played well and all the games we played were very tough, fast and exciting hockey,” Rezek said. This is Rezek’s third outing as an AIHL All-Star but the first time he has been named captain and the first time in his home state of South Australia. “I’m very happy about it and it’s a big honour to be named captain especially in front of my home fans. It’s going to be a great weekend and I’m really looking forward to it,” Rezek said. “For me the shootout is my favourite because it’s a good battle with the goalie one-on-one and I’m trying to push myself to do something different every time and try to score” Rezek said.
Witness the talent and personalities of the best hockey players ever assembled in Australia in a series of skills competitions and All-Star Game.
Captained by local heroes Zach Boyle and Josef Rezek, thirty-four All-Stars will compete in seven skill-based contests: Breakaway Challenge, Fastest Skater, Elimination Shoot-out, Hardest Shot, Shooting Accuracy, Puck Control, Goalie Race.
Single session tickets start at just $14.40. Weekend passes are available from $27.36.
