Bears take win against formidable Brave |

Featuring two very different teams from their first meeting to open the season, Sydney Bears hosted CBR Brave in their home opener at Macquarie Ice Rink on Sunday May 6. In a massive turnaround from the previous day's results for both teams, Sydney Bears won the game 5-3. Not only was this the first Bears win of the season, it was also the Brave's first loss of the year.
The large crowd barely had time to settle in their seats with a Bears unassisted powerplay goal 55 seconds into the game courtesy of defenceman Ryan Annesley. Left alone down his left hand side, Annesley stunned the building with such a quick goal.
Brave equalised a few minutes later with a goal to Kai Miettinen after a turnover. Bears could not turn and chase quick enough. There was lots of fast end to end action despite both teams only registering 6 shots each for the period.
The only goal of the second period was coordinated by Bears captain Michael Schlamp 3 minutes in. Charging up the ice, Schlamp left the puck behind for Charlie Adams who was trailing using Schlamp as a screen, Adams precisely lasered the shot.
The third period ramped up in intensity all over the ice. 4 minutes into the period, Jeremy Brucker increased the Bears lead. A quick reply by Per Daniel Goransson with 15 minutes remaining set up an epic battle.
Both goalies were peppered with a lot more shots in the third period but were doing a great job at keeping the puck out of the net. Could the Bears keep the lead?
International man of mystery Charlie Adams for the Bears nailed 2 quick goals with just under 4 minutes to go. Straight after his second goal of the afternoon, Adams covertly weaved his way around the blue Brave jerseys straight off the centre ice face off with 2 goals in 6 seconds.
Down by 3 goals, Brave coach Rob Starke pulled goalie Alex Tetreault for the extra attacker after a time out. With Brave already on a powerplay, the 6 on 4 advantage was in the Brave's benefit with a powerplay goal to Kai Miettinen with 77 seconds remaining.
With a win each on their home ice, the two teams will not have to wait too long for their next meeting when they take the ice Saturday 12th of may at Macquarie Ice rink. Catch all the excitement and grab your tickets here: http://aihl.net/1r5vgPV |
