It was raining goals in Tilburg overnight as Australia staged a 6-0 demolition of Belgium in their 2nd game of their IIHF Division 2A World’s campaign.
It took just 26 seconds for Australia to get on the board – a trend that defined every period of the game.

Rezek had an identical chance from an identical set up 6 minutes later but was denied on that occasion.
Australia had several more quality chances in the first period including a 5 on 3 power play but were unable to convert.
At the other end, Anthony Kimlin was called into action several times, making key stops on Belgium’s Frank Neven and then moments later denying Bryan Henry.
Wehebe Darge and Beau Taylor combined with some beautiful passing with just three minutes remaining but just couldn’t get the puck past Mike Jansen in the Belgium net. Australia headed into the first intermission 1-0 up.
Less than a minute into the 2nd, Perth Thunder’s Jamie Woodman grabbed a puck inside the blueline and let a wrist shot go that found it’s way into the net via way of a Wehebe Darge deflection, to make 2-0 to Australia.
Penalties were the bane of Belgium’s existence in the 2nd period, taking 5 penalties for 10 minutes total.
To make matters worse, Belgium loss Bryan Kolodziecyzk moments into the 2nd period with what appeared to be an arm injury after a heavy hit from Tommy Powel, Kolodziecyzk is due to suit up for the Sydney Ice Dogs this season and was set to join the team at the conclusion of the tournament. He did return at the start of the third period but the extent of the injury is not yet known.
Australia had plenty more quality chances in the 2nd with Tommy Powell connecting with both Cam Todd and Beau Taylor on separate 2-on-1’s but were unable to capitalise.
However, a great individual effort from the Newcastle Northstars’ Richard Tesarik set up the third goal.
Tesarik found himself the lone forechecker against two Belgium players while his compatriots were on a line change. After winning the battle at the half wall and getting a shot on net, the rebound found it’s way to the CBR Brave’s Kai Miettinen on the other side of the ice. Miettinen centred the pass to find Tesarik at the backdoor to tip it in past Jansen and extend Australia’s lead to 3-0.
Lliam Webster also had a short handed 2-on-1 chance with Taylor on a breakaway 90 seconds before the end of the period but Taylor’s shot went high and the Roos’ headed into the intermission 3-0 up.
The flood gates opened in the third.
Per Daniel Goransson grabbed his 2nd goal of the tournament with a power play goal 54 seconds into the period.
5 minutes later, some great work on the forecheck by Matt Armstrong caused a turnover which enabled Rob Malloy to get a loose puck to Cam Todd who buried the biscuit for Australia’s 5th goal.
Todd added a second goal just 3 minutes later, when a perfect saucer pass from Armstrong found the Ice Dog forward’s stick and he did the rest for goal number six for Australia.
Anthony Kimlin was named MVP for Australia and stopped all 24 shots he faced for back to back shutouts. Armstrong finished with 3 assists to take his IIHF World’s tally to a team leading 4 points.
