Three goals in the final eight minutes, including one with just eight seconds remaining, have propelled the Melbourne Mustangs to a 6-5 shootout victory over the Sydney Bears at O'Brien Group Arena on Sunday night.
Another two-goal performance from Jamie Bourke, as well as a shootout winner, propelled the Mustangs to a weekend sweep over the Bears, having won on Saturday 7-6.
The Mustangs fell behind 2-1 after two periods after a pair of Tyler Noseworthy goals, and after Matthew Beattie leveled the scores in the first minute of the third period, the Bears scored three goals in 90 seconds to take a 5-2 lead.
The Mustangs chipped away in the last eight minutes, with goals to Pat O'Kane, Bourke and Anton Kokkonen leveling the scores 5-5, before Bourke would go on to record the shootout winner.
The Mustangs will travel to Newcastle for their next game on June 10 against the Northstars, while the Bears will wait until June 11 to again face the Mustangs at home in their next game.
