The CBR Brave defeated the Sydney Ice Dogs 4-1 on the Saturday night at the Macquarie Ice Rink to claim the three points and secure an important road win.
Brave net minder Alex Tetreault was the star of the game stopping 25 shots in his first start for 2017.
The Sydney Ice Dogs started the game strong, however they were unable to turn pressure into goals.
The Brave on the other hand were lethal on the counter attack, and goals to Tyler Kubara, Stephen Blunden and Casey Kubara saw the visitors go to the first break leading 3-1.
The second period was a real arm wrestle with neither side being able to stamp their dominance on the game.
Ice Dogs goaltender Damien Ketlo was instrumental in keeping his side in the game, stopping 14 shots in the period and 37 on the night.
The battle of the goalies continued in the third period and young CBR goalie Tetreault played like a seasoned veteran.
The Brave had to kill off a 5-minute power play after Matt Buskas was giving a major penalty for a hit to head of the Ice Dogs forward Strat Allen.
With the clock winding down, the Ice Dogs pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, however Brave defenseman Dominic Jalbert put the game out of reach with an empty net goal and Brave rolled out of town 4-1 winners.
The Ice Dogs came into the game missing a number of the key players, including Dave Upton, Billy Cliff and Stephen Johnson and the undermanned Ice Dogs were stretched by a full-strength CBR line-up.
The win moves the Brave into second place in the standings and back into a playoff spot, while the Ice Dogs drop to fifth.
The two sides will be back in action on the Sunday night, as the Ice Dogs travel to Canberra for the second leg of this weekend’s home-and-home series with the Brave.
