Trans-Tasman Champions League Postponed

Australian Ice Hockey League and New Zealand Ice Hockey League

MEDIA RELEASE

1 March 2013

The AIHL and NZIHL have decided to postpone the Trans-Tasman Champions League (TTCL) series until 2014.

The TTCL, which held its inaugural tournament last year, involves the two top NZIHL teams facing off against the top two AIHL teams for the chance to become the Trans-Tasman Champions.

This is solely a financial decision. The AIHL requires more time to raise funds for the two teams travelling to New Zealand.

The AIHL and NZIHL would like to clarify this is not a cancellation of the TTCL. Considerable growth is planned for the 2013 season. We hope this will enable us to resume TTCL competition in New Zealand in 2014.

The AIHL and NZIHL are committed to their relationship, the TTCL, and their fans. For those fans that have already purchased trips to New Zealand, please note the NZIHL is working on an alternative showcase event which may include the NZ Ice Blacks, the Stampede, Red Devils and/or an NZ Imports All Star selection.

We apologise to all TTCL, NZIHL and AIHL fans for the frustration and inconvenience. We look forward to seeing you in New Zealand in 2014.

For more information, please contact Deputy Commissioner Alex Lata at alex@theaihl.com.
