The CBR Brave have recorded their first ever shutout in a dominant 5-0 win over a struggling Melbourne Ice outfit at the Brave Cave on Saturday night.
The first period saw plenty of action both ways, as both teams wrestled to assert their dominance over the other. It was the CBR Brave that would draw first blood late in the first period through debutant Chris Leveille, who gave the home side a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Brave and Ice continued the battle for supremacy throughout the second period, but it was once again Chris Leveille who would strike for the home side to give the Brave a 2-0 lead late in the second period. The Brave would maintain that lead as they took to the locker room for the second intermission.

Melbourne Ice had a mountain to climb in the third, but were unable to take the first step on the long road back into the game. The Brave on the other hand, continued to apply pressure to the Ice as the Brave added goals from Hayden Dawes, Wehebe Darge and Ice turned Brave forward Joey Hughes.
Melbourne Ice Captain Lliam Webster was pleased with the first couple of periods, saying “I thought we played a great road period to start with, in a different size rink, different ice and different environment. [The] second period carried on pretty well and then, yeah look at it could have been a different game. Obviously it wasn't but I guess we were playing against a really good, well drilled team with great systems, and they are playing really well as a unit.”
The offence of the CBR Brave, and the outstanding efforts of Matt Hewitt in net, proved too much to handle for the Melbourne Ice who will turn their attention to round 2 of the double header on Sunday night.

CBR Brave Head Coach Rob Starke was happy with the result, speaking to the mood in the locker room, saying “We won as a team again, and there are a lot of smiling faces in that dressing room”
Coach Starke quickly turned his attention to tomorrow night, saying “[We’ll make] some slight adjustments because they're not going to come out the same way they did tonight. We're fully aware that they do have some special players and some threats out there. We're just going to make sure that we're aware of them and go back to playing Brave hockey”
Catch all the action as the Brave and The Ice go head to head again Sunday 27 at 4:30pm!
